My answer to Can I take USMLE Step 1 exam in USA as a tourist?
Thanks for A2A.
Yes, you can take the exam in USA if you wish. There is no restriction to where you take your USMLE exam. I took my USMLE Step 2 CK in US while doing USCE.
Points to remember:
- Ask for a B1/B2 visa at the time of visa interview or immigration counter in USA. If you have taken visa for USCE or USMLE step 2 CS with some site seeing ,this is usually given. Both are needed for travel and work as sometimes even if you have a B1/B2 long visa in passport, you are given B1 or B2 entry visa for that US trip based on what you mentioned the purpose of your visit at US immigration counter.
- They most of times ask why do you want to take this exam in USA instead of in your home country? Answer in simple language your reason to take exam in home country.
- Have proofs to support your statement-Ask ECFMG to send you an email or letter for the particular exam permit for your visa interview or at immigration counter if asked + keep a print out of your exam permit in your cabin bag to show.
